We sadly lost our beautiful Marley in February this year and were uttlerly devastated but we knew that we wanted another Spanish Water Dog, as we had fallen in love with this intelligent fascinating and, at times, challenging breed.
We were fortunate to make contact with Spanish Water Dog Rescue UK to enquire about possible adoption as an option for us, as we really wanted another dog. After several discussions about the process and completion of forms on our suitability, a lovely little two year old male called Flynn had caught our eye, on the website. Following various conversations with Di and Catherine, which were completely transparent and honest, we were honoured and delighted to collect this gorgeous wee fella on 12th April from the UK and offer him a forever home.
As experienced Spanish Water Dog owners, we knew we could give him a good life. However, we also learned so much from Di Williamson and Catherine Crowther from rescue on the correct way to deal with troublesome or naughty puppy behaviour. This was fantastic and proved to be invaluable. The commitment and time they gave us was admirable, and both were very professional, with the correct home for Flynn being their top priority.
From day one, and gradually on a week by week basis we have seen little Flynn settle into our home, in the country in Inishowen, Co. Donegal. He enjoys daily country walks, play in the garden with his prized tennis ball, and more recently we have found him to be quite the water baby. We are fortunte to have lots of lovely beaches here and boy is he enjoying them! Everyone is impressed with him, most of all us, as he is such a little rascal at times, but so sweet, loving and sometimes surprisingly laid back. He still acts up occasionally, with the usual Spanish Water Dog antics, stealing socks, paper, coins (very capitalist) and looking for a chase. He has been a fantastic addition to our home, and has settled in so well, it feels it was meant to be, and that he has been here a lot longer than two months. He certainly has won us us over, and we adore him.
We feel it is a fitting tribute to Marley that we have passed on our knowledge and admiration of the breed, to give this boy a new home. Look out for more photos in coming months.. we can't stop taking photos of him! We would like to thank Spanish Water Dog Rescue UK from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to have Flynn, as we are truly blessed and delighted. We would encourage anyone who feels like they can commit to giving one of these gorgeous intelligent dogs a new start, to make contact with this organisation as soon as possible, or to offer a foster home.
